Walt Disney was born to Elias Disney and his mother, Flora Disney. Elias Disney moved from Huron County, Ontario to the United States in 1878, seeking for gold in California but finally he settled down to farm with his parents, until 1884. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad and married Flora Disney on January 1, 1888 in Acron, Florida. The family moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1890, where his brother Robert lived. For most of his early life, Robert helped Elias financially. In 1906, when Walt was four, Elias and his family moved to a farm in Marceline, Missouri, where his brother Roy had recently bought farmland. While in Marceline, Disney developed his love for drawing. One of their neighbors, a retired doctor named "Doc" Sherwood, paid him to draw pictures of Sherwood's horse, Rupert. The Disneys remained in Marceline for four years, before moving to Kansas City in 1911. There, Walt and his sister Ruth attended the Benton Grammar School where he met Walter Pfeiffer. The Pfeiffers were theatre aficionados, and introduced Walt to the world of vaudeville and motion pictures. Soon, Walt was spending more time at the Pfeiffers' than at home.
Disney felt that he needed to develop a character. He based the character on a mouse he had adopted as a pet while working in a Kansas City studio. Ub Iwerks reworked on the sketches made by Disney so that it was easier to animate it. However, Mickey's voice and personality was provided by Disney. As many of the old animators have commented, "Ub designed Mickey's physical appearance, but Walt gave him his soul."
The first animated short with Mickey in it was titled, Plane Crazy, which was, like all of Disney's previous works, a silent film. After failing to find a distributor for Plane Crazy or its follow-up, The Gallopin' Gaucho, Disney created a Mickey cartoon with sound called Steamboat Willie. A businessman named Pat Powers provided Disney with both distribution and Cinephone, a sound- syncronization process. Steamboat Willie became an instant success, and Plane Crazy, The Galloping Gaucho, and all future Mickey cartoons were released with soundtracks. Disney himself provided the vocal effects for the earliest cartoons and performed as the voice of Mickey Mouse until 1946. After the release of Steamboat Willie, Walt Disney would continue to successfully use sound in all of his future cartoons, and Cinephone became the new distributor for Disney's early sound cartoons as well. Mickey's popularity would now skyrocket.
In late 1966 Disney was scheduled to undergo a neck surgery for an old polo injury, he had played frequently at the Riveria Club in Hollywood for many years. On November 2, 1966, during pre-surgery X-rays, doctors at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center across the street from the Disney Studio discovered that Disney—for many years a smoker—had an enormous tumor on his left lung. Five days later, Disney went back to hospital for surgery, but the tumor had spread to such great extent that doctors had to remove his entire left lung. The doctors then told Disney that he only had six months to a year to live. Disney and his wife spent a short amount of time in Palm Springs, California before returning home. On November 30, 1966, Disney collapsed in his home, but was revived by paramedics, and was taken back to the hospital, where he died on December 15, 1966 at 9:30 a.m

Gold

The color Gold is used a lot in the modern world, in China Gold is a color for many riches, in the Olympics a Gold medal symbolizes the highest achievment in many fields, Gold is also a very fashionable color, I for one love it!

Religious

The Chinese believe that any bright color is a very special color as it expresses riches in ones life. I lived in China for 4 years and every night the local streets would be pouring with bright colors such as Gold, Red and Yellow, even thier dragons on New Years can be Gold! In Pakistan Gold is a very important color in weddings, when a bride is ready to get wed the husband's family presents the bride with golden jewelry, it is the same in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh etc.

Social

Every 4 years there is an Olympic game, it is the high point of every atheletes lives. after an event the top three athletes in the event are given a medal although, one should be happy to obtain a silver or bronze medal, it is the Gold medal which is prestiges, this shows exactly how royal the color Gold is. Finally gold is also a very fashionable color it provieds glamor and shine to dresses, it is more commonly worn by women but men wear Gold too. With Gold or any other color infact the world would be a lot less bright.

Political

The whole world revovles around Gold, gold is sold it is used for money etc. A countries economy is based on how much gold it has. Gold is a precious metal, the color gold is associated with wealth and prosperity. Gold was more used a few century ago when people did not know how to make paper, now we use money, which is paper, but Gold has its fair share in paper money.

Sites: Religious Social Political

Museum Plates

For this project we had to select 2 paintings done by any artist in the world and then combine them and use a style of art we had learnt in class. I choose 2 paintings of Pablo Picaso, because i find his art very interesting and abstract, i too tried to make my plate as abstract as his paintings and i think i did it quite well.

I really hate to paint. However i enjoyed this project because it was not simply painting we also had to design and draw our end result as well. Just before i finished my plate it started to look out to be very dirty and messy, however i kept painting.. partially because i had to. In the end when i had finished painting i thought that i would trace all my lines with a black marker to make it stand out and guess what? it turned out to look great!

I choose to use the abstract style in my work because it would really make my piece stand out and along with some color it would look great!

Road Signs

For the road sign design we had to choose from an option of many road signs and then had to make them come to life with two colours, black and yellow. I choose a land mine road sign. Since i didn't know what to do i looked up examples of land mine signs on the internet and found some good examples and decided to twist them around a bit.

I had to solve a few problems while working on this project, such as the colour positioning and ideas for the road sign. I got help ion the end by asking Mrs. Bammi and going on the Internet. I could have however done better with the overall end product, i found it rather scrapy and dirty.

I found this activity easy to do, but that is probably the reason why i did not do it well.

Barcode

In the barcode design project we had to replace something in or on or even around the object with a barcode. My cup was a multicoloured cup, i choose this colour because bright colors really pull in anyone who looks at them and then i put a barcode inthe shadow because shadows are black and barcodes are black.

I found this project rather boring as there was very little we had to do and it was quite narrow as supposed to the mandala project which i really enjoyed, i would have found this project more interesting if we had had more time and if we could have added more objects in the surroundings.

Mandala Project

In the Mandala we had to create a piece that included an object an animal and an element of your desire, we had to then combine them together and keep it in a circle. I learnt to be patient and not to get distracted, i learnt these skills while cutting and coloring the flames, i had to be patient because it was really frustrating to cut out all the little details at the tips and on the sides, I also had to keep my attention to my piece and nothing else, therefore i moved to a seperate table away from all my friends, so i could do the work.

I really enjoyed the assignment, and i was very pleased with my end product, because it was very well put together, and looked very neat and tidy in the end. My designs were very complex, however when they were put together it looked really good. I choose my designs according to my personality. For example: if my personality was happy i experimented with different types of lines that best "fitted" the personality.

The assignment was quite fun as i got to discover new patterns and try out old ones. I personally think i did a very good job, and i would love to do this again, and next time i would, create more elegant designs and possibly make it better.
